Welcome to Division 4 - Introduction & More Info

Updated: Sep 24

ree

Hi Parents/Guardians of Division 4! Firstly, I want to introduce myself to you! I am Mr. Hui, the classroom teacher for Division 4 at Nelson Elementary! This is my 5th year at Nelson and I am extremely excited to get going with this class. It has been a stellar start to the school year and we have a tremendous group of students this year! I am so excited to have this group this year and I can tell that there is so much potential for a lot of learning, growing, and developing this year.

We are slowly starting to get into a routine and back into the swing of things, and I could not be more excited to have each and every one of these students in division 4!

Classroom Theme

Every year, I build my classroom around a theme, and this year we are doing a Monopoly theme. The purpose of the theme is to make the classroom setting a fun place for the students, and we incorporate various "Monopoly" things into our learning. For example, we will have teams in the class where they are working towards a larger end goal in the year. They will receive classroom currency ("HuiBucks") in order to purchase items, learn to use and save money, as well as learning basic money keeping, spending, rent, and salary. Furthermore, students will be required to work amongst their teammates to build on their leadership skills, teamwork and collaboration.

Technology & Website

ree

This year, I will continue to use this website to post communication newsletters every now and then so parents can be involved and know all the events and things happening around our classroom and school community!

Furthermore, the planners page will be updated daily with work that needs to be completed, reminders, and upcoming events. Although the students will continue to use planners, and I will sign them each day, the planners page is for them and yourselves to be aware of important deadlines coming up so that you are in the loop too! I will also post a digital copy of the work on the planners page so students can have access to it at home - incase they left it at school or the dog ate their homework! Math will always be a digital copy as students will complete work on lined paper but will need a device to access questions - this will help with our effort to reduce paper use and printing.

Practicum Student Teacher

We are super lucky this year because we have a practicum student from SFU in our classroom this term! Mya Lopez is a student teacher from SFU completing her long practicum to one day become a teacher herself! I am super excited to have Ms. Lopez in our classroom teaching division 4 for 10 weeks, and I am even more excited to hopefully mentor and guide an up and coming teacher. Although Ms. Lopez will be teaching 80% of the time from now until December, I will still be in the classroom and am still the supervising teacher throughout her practicum. Please click HERE to see the letter that was sent home from Ms. Lopez!

If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me anytime.
